The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has provided a step-by-step guide on how Nigerians can download their National Identification Number (NIN) slips online without paying any fee.

The commission disclosed the process in a video shared on its official X account on Wednesday, explaining how NIN holders can access and save their official identification slips through the NINAuth mobile application.

According to NIMC, users no longer need to visit its enrolment centres or engage third-party agents to obtain the document, as the process can be completed directly from their mobile phones.

To download the NIN slip, the commission advised users to follow these steps:

1. Download the NINAuth application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

2. Launch the application on your mobile phone.

3. Select the “Do More with NINAuth” option.

4. Click on “NIN Slip” from the available services.

5. Complete the facial authentication process to confirm your identity.

6. After successful verification, select “Download NIN Slip” to generate and save the document on your device.

Explaining the final stage of the process, the commission said: “Once verified, click on ‘Download NIN Slip’ to generate and save the official NIMC-issued NIN slip into your mobile phone.”

NIMC described the service as simple, secure and accessible, stressing that users are not required to make any payment to download the document.

“It is that simple, it is free, available, and a few taps away. Get yours today,” the commission added.

The initiative is part of efforts to improve access to identity services, reduce congestion at enrolment centres and make it easier for Nigerians to obtain important identification documents.

NIMC introduced the NINAuth platform in October 2025 to enable Nigerians to manage and control access to their personal information across government institutions, banks, telecommunications companies and educational services.

In June 2026, the commission announced that registered NIN holders could also use the application to download their official NIN slips at no cost.

According to information on the NINAuth website, the downloaded document carries the same official status as the NIN slip issued by the commission and can be used at banks, government offices and other institutions requiring it.

The National Identification Number is an 11-digit unique number assigned to Nigerians and legal residents after successful registration. It serves as a means of identity verification and links individuals' personal records to the National Identity Database.

Registration for a NIN requires applicants to visit an NIMC enrolment centre, provide their demographic details and undergo biometric registration, including fingerprint and facial capture, before the unique identification number is issued.
