Voting was disrupted in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday following an outbreak of violence at a polling area during the ongoing governorship election.

The incident reportedly began after a youth and some other residents discovered materials allegedly linked to vote-buying and believed to be associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to Channels Television.

The youth reportedly said they seized the materials because they could not stand by while what they described as an “illegal activity” was taking place.

The situation escalated when individuals allegedly connected to the materials arrived at the scene and reportedly attempted to take the youth away.

The development triggered panic, forcing voters, residents and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to flee the area for safety.

Video footage from the scene showed residents running in different directions, while motorcycles and vehicles moved through the area as people attempted to escape the violence.

As of the time of filing this report, it was unclear whether anyone sustained injuries in the incident.

Earlier, some voters in Ejigbo had raised concerns over an alleged vote-buying incident involving a political party. They said they alerted security operatives but alleged that the personnel were reluctant to investigate the matter.

The allegation reportedly heightened tension among voters as accreditation and voting continued in the area.

Meanwhile, at another polling unit in Ejigbo, party agents questioned election officials over an alleged discrepancy in the number of ballot papers supplied to the unit.

One of the agents challenged the officials over the figures, asking: “You told us you brought 584 ballot papers, but after counting, it was not up to 584. How come?”

Other residents subsequently called for a recount of the ballot papers, stressing the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process.

The incidents have added to concerns over the conduct of the Osun governorship election, with voters and stakeholders calling for calm and strict adherence to electoral guidelines.
