The Ogun State Government has extended its one-day-off-duty work palliative for eligible civil and public servants as part of efforts to ease the financial burden of rising transportation costs on workers.

Governor Dapo Abiodun also approved the continuation of the ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for another three months, covering July to September 2026.

The renewed intervention follows an earlier approval that ran from April to June 2026 after the increase in the pump price of petrol. According to the governor, the extension is intended to cushion the effects of higher transportation costs while encouraging workers to maintain efficient and quality service delivery across the state.

However, the one-day-off-duty concession will not apply to personnel on shift duties or those providing essential services. The exemption covers medical workers, judicial service employees, teaching and non-teaching staff in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, security personnel, political office holders, accounting officers, directors, and officers receiving Special Responsibility Allowances due to the nature of their duties, which require their physical presence at work.

In a circular announcing the extension, the State Head of Service, Iskeel Saka, urged eligible workers to take advantage of the palliative while ensuring that public service delivery remains efficient and uninterrupted.

The Ogun State Government reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its workforce, pledging to sustain policies that improve workers' productivity while mitigating the impact of prevailing economic challenges.
