Argentina have reportedly submitted a special request to FIFA over the kit they hope to wear in their highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-final against England in Atlanta.

The defending champions secured their place in the last four with a 3-1 victory over Switzerland, setting up a blockbuster clash with the Three Lions, who edged Norway 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

According to reports, Argentina have asked football's governing body for permission to wear their all-blue away kit instead of their iconic sky blue and white striped home jersey. FIFA is expected to make a decision on the request on Tuesday.

So far in the tournament, Lionel Scaloni's side have worn their traditional home colours in five of their six matches. Their only appearance in the blue away kit came during a 3-1 group-stage win over Jordan.

While the request may be partly due to England being designated as the official "home" team for the semi-final, many believe the decision is also influenced by Argentina's long-standing football superstitions.

The South American nation has a rich tradition of cábala—a belief in rituals and lucky symbols believed to bring success. The all-blue strip is regarded by many Argentine fans as a fortunate kit because it was worn during some of the country's most memorable World Cup victories over England.

Argentina famously wore dark blue in the 1986 World Cup quarter-final, where Diego Maradona scored the legendary "Hand of God" goal and his unforgettable solo effort. They also wore blue during their dramatic penalty shootout triumph over England in the Round of 16 at the 1998 World Cup.

Should FIFA approve the request, England are expected to wear their traditional all-white home kit when the two football giants meet in Wednesday's eagerly anticipated semi-final.
