The Federal Government will on Wednesday evacuate the final batch of 315 Nigerians from South Africa as part of its emergency repatriation programme following recent xenophobic attacks and growing security concerns in parts of the country.

The returnees are expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, aboard an Air Peace flight.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.

According to the ministry, the evacuation flight will depart Johannesburg at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, and is expected to land in Lagos at approximately 6:30 a.m.

The ministry noted that the flight is the fifth and final evacuation operation arranged for Nigerians who voluntarily indicated their desire to return home amid the security challenges in South Africa.

It added that four earlier flights had successfully evacuated hundreds of Nigerians, reflecting the Federal Government's commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of its citizens abroad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that the government remains dedicated to protecting Nigerians wherever they reside and expressed appreciation to Air Peace and other stakeholders whose support made the evacuation exercise possible.

The completion of the final evacuation flight marks the end of the government's coordinated effort to assist Nigerians affected by the recent wave of xenophobic violence and insecurity in South Africa.
