Former Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Prof. David Salifu, has died after sustaining gunshot wounds during an attack by suspected kidnappers.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday in Wukari, Taraba State, as Prof. Salifu was travelling to Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Sources said the former SSG escaped from the attackers but was shot during the encounter. He was immediately taken to a hospital in Makurdi for medical treatment but was later pronounced dead on Thursday night.

Details of the attack remain sketchy as of the time of filing this report, and security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Attempts to reach the Benue State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful, as calls placed to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) were not answered.
