The Ogun State Police Command has said the prime suspect in the alleged murder of former OGTV broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, confessed that the attack was planned to "teach her a lesson" over grievances from his previous employment.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, while providing an update on the ongoing investigation.

The police had launched an investigation after receiving a report of suspicious activities at Oyesiku's residence. Detectives who responded to the scene reportedly found signs of forced entry and evidence of a violent struggle.

Adetayo's body was discovered at the security post, while Oyesiku was found dead inside her apartment. Her Lexus RX330, which was initially reported missing, was later recovered through intelligence-led operations.

Ojajuni said investigators made a breakthrough after discovering a handwritten note inside the recovered vehicle. A forensic analysis of the note led detectives to the arrest of the principal suspect, identified as 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, at a construction site in Ibara, Abeokuta, on June 24.

According to the police commissioner, further operations led to the arrest of two other suspects, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer, who were allegedly involved in the conspiracy.

"Further intelligence gathering and painstaking investigation led to the identification and arrest of the principal suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, aged 22 years, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer," Ojajuni said.

He added that the subsequent arrests brought into custody all suspects believed to have participated in the alleged crime.

The commissioner said Philip confessed during interrogation that he coordinated the attack after developing grievances against Oyesiku while working as her security guard.

According to Ojajuni, the suspect told investigators that he recruited the two other suspects and planned the attack with the intention of "teaching her a lesson."

Police said the suspects allegedly carried out the attack on June 20 after overpowering Adetayo and forcing him to grant them access to the residence.

"Upon gaining entry, they attacked Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and subsequently murdered the security guard," the commissioner said.

After the killings, the suspects allegedly fled with the deceased's Lexus RX330, which was later recovered in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State through intelligence and technical tracking.

Ojajuni said detectives recovered several exhibits linked to the investigation, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank and a black pen.

He stressed that despite the alleged confessional statements and evidence recovered, the suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.

The commissioner added that investigations are continuing to strengthen the case and ensure the diligent prosecution of all those connected with the alleged murders.

"The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book," Ojajuni said.
