The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, with a total of 186,291 candidates registered for the examination nationwide.

According to the council, candidates sat for 12 subjects and were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as five foreign countries.

The examination was conducted between April 20 and April 30, 2026. The results were approved following the conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held on Thursday at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Addressing members of the committee, Folake David, Chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, commended the smooth conduct of the examination and the processes that ensured the timely release of the results. David represented the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, at the meeting.

The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country and members of NECO’s management team.

The committee also approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE Re-sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

NECO stated that the re-sit examination is intended for candidates who have conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects. The council explained that the exercise will give affected candidates an opportunity to address their deficiencies and secure the certification required for admission into Senior Secondary School One (SSS I) without repeating an academic year.

The examination body reaffirmed its commitment to upholding credible assessment standards while providing eligible candidates with opportunities to advance in their academic pursuits.
