Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State and several leaders of the Accord Party narrowly avoided injury on Wednesday when a campaign podium collapsed during a political rally in Ijebu-Jesa.

Among those on the platform when the incident occurred were Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Imole Campaign Council spokesperson Pelumi Olajengbesi, and other prominent Accord Party figures.

A video circulating on social media captured the moment the structure gave way shortly after a musician performing at the event ended his performance, just as Governor Adeleke rose from his seat. The incident briefly interrupted the rally, but activities resumed after a few minutes.

Addressing supporters after the collapse, Adeleke said the large turnout at the event reflected growing public support for the Accord Party despite recent defections by some lawmakers.

“This massive presence proves that Accord has become stronger despite the defection of some lawmakers,” the governor said.

He also praised Pelumi Olajengbesi for mobilising support across Ijesaland, describing him as “the David of this generation” capable of overcoming political opposition.

Adeleke urged residents to participate in the upcoming election, insisting that intimidation and violence would not diminish the party’s popularity.

“No amount of violence can change the love of the people for Accord. Let us come out on election day and vote massively. Our vote is our voice,” he added.

The rally was organised to inaugurate the Imole Canvassers’ Group in Oriade Local Government Area. The initiative, spearheaded by Olajengbesi, the Accord candidate for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, aims to mobilise about 10,000 canvassers to promote the governor’s achievements across Osun East.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with Adeleke seeking a second term in office on the platform of the Accord Party.
