Babachir Lawal, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has resigned his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement issued on Monday, Lawal alleged that the party's recently concluded primary election was "massively rigged" in favour of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and his political associates.
The former SGF said his decision to leave the party was informed by what he described as a lack of transparency and fairness in the conduct of the primary process.
Lawal's resignation comes amid growing controversy surrounding the ADC primaries, with some party stakeholders reportedly expressing dissatisfaction with the outcome.
Details of his resignation letter and the party's response are still emerging.
