The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has expressed concern over the worsening security situation and growing economic hardship in Nigeria, warning that millions of citizens are facing increasingly difficult living conditions.

Speaking at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Saturday, Mark said the country is grappling with serious challenges that require urgent and decisive action from leaders at all levels.

According to the former Senate President, insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods across several parts of the country, with many communities displaced and farmers unable to access their farmlands.

“Nigeria today faces profound challenges. Insecurity continues to threaten lives and livelihoods across many parts of our country. Communities are displaced, farmers are unable to cultivate their lands freely, businesses struggle under difficult economic conditions, and millions of families face hardship and uncertainty,” he said.

Mark also lamented the growing economic burden on ordinary Nigerians, citing the rising cost of living, unemployment, declining purchasing power and increasing social discontent.

“Equally troubling is the growing economic burden on ordinary Nigerians. Rising cost of living, unemployment, declining purchasing power and social discontent demand urgent and sincere attention from those entrusted with governance,” he added.

The ADC chairman stressed that, as a responsible opposition party, the ADC would not seek political gain from the challenges confronting the nation but would support genuine efforts aimed at restoring security, economic stability and national unity.

“As a responsible opposition party, the ADC does not celebrate the difficulties confronting our nation, nor do we seek political advantage from the pain of our people. Rather, we stand firmly in support of every sincere effort aimed at restoring peace, security, economic stability and national cohesion,” he stated.

He called on governments at all levels to intensify efforts to tackle insecurity and implement policies that would improve the welfare of Nigerians.

Beyond national issues, Mark urged party members to strengthen the ADC’s internal democratic processes and maintain unity ahead of future electoral contests, including the 2027 general elections.

He described the NEC as the highest policy-making organ of the party outside its convention and emphasized the need for its decisions to reflect fairness, transparency and the collective interest of members.

The former Senate President also urged party leaders and members across the country to place the party’s interests above personal ambitions and resolve internal disagreements through dialogue and established mechanisms.

“Our strength lies not in division but in unity. We must resist every tendency capable of weakening our collective resolve. Personal ambition must never supersede party interest,” he said.

Mark further called for efforts to expand the party’s membership base, strengthen grassroots structures and develop practical solutions to the challenges facing Nigerians.

He reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to providing credible leadership and serving as a genuine democratic alternative for Nigerians seeking change.
