The Nigerian Railway Corporation has announced the temporary suspension of operations on the Warri-Itakpe Train Service following operational challenges and technical recommendations from engineers.
In a statement issued on May 25, the corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said the decision was taken to enable the conduct of critical operational assessments aimed at improving safety, reliability, and service delivery along the rail corridor.
According to the statement, the suspension is part of efforts to address identified technical issues and ensure the continued safe operation of the service.
“The NRC regrets the inconvenience this development may cause passengers and other stakeholders and assures the public that efforts are ongoing to resolve the issues within the shortest possible time,” the statement read.
The corporation added that passengers and intending travellers would be informed before the end of the week about the date for the resumption of normal operations.
Unyimadu reaffirmed the NRC’s commitment to providing safe, efficient, and customer-friendly rail transport services across the country, while appealing for public understanding and patience during the period of suspension.
The latest disruption comes months after the Warri-Itakpe train service resumed operations on October 29, 2025, following an earlier suspension for maintenance and system checks. At the time, the NRC said the shutdown was necessary to carry out critical repairs on the tracks and rolling stock to enhance passenger comfort, reliability, and safety.
