Governor Charles Soludo has announced that his administration has intensified efforts to clamp down on individuals posing as pastors and prophets allegedly involved in fraudulent miracle practices across Anambra State.

Speaking on Sunday, May 10, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral during the All Knights Day celebration of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, Soludo said several self-styled clerics had already been arrested and were currently in custody, where they were reportedly making confessional statements.

The governor accused some religious leaders of promoting what he described as a “gospel of salvation without the cross,” alleging that they exploit vulnerable members of society through deceptive spiritual claims and staged miracles.

As part of the state’s ongoing enforcement effort, Soludo said individuals who claim to possess supernatural healing abilities should be willing to demonstrate such powers under controlled medical conditions at Amaku General Hospital, rather than in public crusades or gatherings.

“We have arrested fake pastors and bishops. Whoever wants to perform a miracle should come to Amaku Hospital,” he said, reiterating his administration’s commitment to sanitizing the religious space and building what he described as a “new Anambra” free from deception.

He added that the crackdown would continue as part of broader efforts to protect residents from exploitation under the guise of religious practice.
