In his alleged cyberbullying trial involving President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, activist Omoyele Sowore filed a no-case motion. Judge Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled a ruling for May 8.

Sowore is being prosecuted on behalf of the federal government by the Department of State Services (DSS), which initiated the case.

On his X handle, Sowore is alleged to have called President Tinubu a "criminal."

After Sowore and the DSS approved their final written arguments for and against the no-case submission, the court set the date.

Marshall Abubakar, Sowore's attorney, informed the court that the prosecution had not connected his client to the accused offenses while endorsing the procedures submitted in support of the motion.

Because Sowore was unrelated to the two-count charge that was preferred against him, he pleaded with the court to maintain the no-case submission.

Akinlolu Kehinde, the DSS's attorney, responded by telling the court that the prosecution had submitted a reply on April 23 and asked the court to reject the no-case application.

The senior attorney requested that the court order Sowore to submit his defense, arguing that the DSS had developed a case against the defendant through its witnesses.

The trial judge heard arguments from both parties and then postponed the case until May 8 for ruling on the no-case submission.

The DSS had earlier amended the cyberbullying charges filed against Sowore.
