President Bola Tinubu has approved ₦2 billion in relief support for victims of the March 29 attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mohammed Dorro, announced the approval on Tuesday during a three-hour interactive session between the President and a delegation of Plateau stakeholders at the State House in Abuja.

The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that the intervention followed Tinubu’s earlier commitment to support victims of the attack.

Gunmen had on March 29 attacked residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos as they returned from Palm Sunday church services, killing more than 27 people in one of the deadliest incidents in the state in recent times.

During an emergency visit to Jos on April 2, President Tinubu had directed the minister to compile detailed data on affected persons and property losses to guide a compensation framework.

The high-level meeting was attended by Governor Caleb Mutfwang and a broad cross-section of Plateau leaders, including former governors, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and political stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Mutfwang reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to peace and unity, emphasizing the need to overcome longstanding ethnic and religious divisions.

“Our coming here today shows that there is a renewed spirit on the Plateau that we want to be together,” the governor said, adding that the state is determined to build a more inclusive and prosperous society.

Stakeholders at the meeting also called for enhanced federal support to strengthen security in the state, including increased troop deployment, the installation of surveillance infrastructure, and measures to facilitate the safe return of internally displaced persons to their communities.
