Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has urged the Federal Government to suspend ongoing election campaigns and focus on addressing the worsening security situation across the country.
Amaechi made the appeal while commenting on the state of the nation, describing the rising wave of insecurity as a national emergency that should take precedence over political activities. He stressed that the safety of citizens must be guaranteed before any meaningful democratic process can take place.
“There can be no meaningful elections if citizens do not feel safe in their own communities,” he said.
The former minister called on authorities to prioritise the protection of lives and property, warning that continuing political campaigns amid widespread killings, kidnappings, and unrest could further erode public trust in government.
He added that restoring security nationwide should be the government’s immediate focus before proceeding with serious political engagements ahead of elections.
