Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday appeared before the Kaduna State High Court as proceedings resumed in a case filed against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai is standing trial alongside Amadu Sule on allegations including abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
He arrived at the court premises at about 9 a.m. under heavy security presence, attracting a crowd of supporters, legal practitioners, and members of the public who had gathered early for the proceedings.
Inside the courtroom, the matter was expected to continue with submissions from both the prosecution and defence counsel as of the time of filing this report.
Before entering the courtroom, El-Rufai was reportedly overheard discussing the upcoming convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with an associate, inquiring about whether the event would hold the following day. The associate reportedly responded, “God willing.”
In a separate matter, the former governor is also facing a 10-count charge before the Federal High Court in Kaduna bordering on allegations of abuse of office, money laundering, and fraud involving ₦579.6 million and $1.1 million. A bail hearing in that case has been scheduled for April 14.
Meanwhile, supporters of El-Rufai have expressed confidence that he will be vindicated through the judicial process.
