The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a woman, Fatima Muhammed, over alleged naira mutilation.

According to the Commission, the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, April 7, 2025, following the circulation of a viral video on TikTok in which she was seen using a ₦500 note to clean mucus from her nose.

EFCC operatives reportedly traced the suspect to the Maiduguri metropolis, where she was subsequently taken into custody.

She is currently being held at the Commission’s detention facility in Maiduguri as investigations continue. The EFCC stated that she will be charged to court upon the conclusion of its inquiries.
