Channels Television anchor Seun Okinbaloye has stated that he remains undeterred by recent comments directed at him by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Speaking during a live broadcast on Sunday, Okinbaloye asserted his commitment to his profession, declaring, “Let me be clear: I’m not afraid, and I will never be intimidated.” He emphasized that journalism is “a duty to the public, not a concession to power.”

Okinbaloye also expressed appreciation to viewers and civil society organisations for their support, noting that it reinforces a shared commitment to truth and accountability.

He further cautioned against threats to democratic principles, warning that “our democracy is in danger if we allow one-way traffic in balloting.” He added that such rhetoric must not foster an environment that could be exploited by individuals with harmful intentions.

The remarks follow comments made by Wike during a media parley in Abuja on Friday, where the minister criticised Okinbaloye’s analysis on Politics Today regarding the potential risk of Nigeria evolving into a one-party state.

During the event, Wike stated that if he could “break the screen,” he “would have shot him,” a remark that has since attracted criticism from civil society groups and media stakeholders.

Despite the controversy, Okinbaloye reaffirmed his resolve to continue asking critical questions and holding public officials accountable.
