The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Sununu, has officially resigned from his position to pursue a senatorial seat in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sununu’s resignation follows a directive from the Kebbi State Government requiring all political office holders intending to contest the upcoming elections to step down from their appointments on or before March 31, 2026. The order, issued in a circular dated March 2, 2026, from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, is designed to ensure compliance with electoral laws and due process for public office holders seeking elective positions.

Appointed to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in November 2024, Sununu previously served as Minister of State for Education. He also represented Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, where he chaired the Committee on Healthcare Services.

Sununu’s departure is part of a broader trend in Kebbi State, as several public office holders resign to prepare for the 2027 elections.
