The Senate President, Senator David Mark has asked both the Benue and Nasarawa State governments to cooperate among themselves in a bid to find an amicable solution to the unending Agatu farmers/ Fulani herdsmen crisis.

Mark spoke in the course of his senatorial campaign, at Agatu and Apa Local Government Areas of Benue State yesterday against the backdrop of the recent skirmishes in the area that led to the death of no fewer than 12 people, adding that the two sister state governments could no longer turn a blind eye to the wanton destruction of lives and property in the area.

He said: “the two state governments should not allow this unwarranted killings and destruction of lives and property to continue. They must complement the efforts of the Federal Government by coming together in the interest of the suffering victims of the crisis to find lasting solution to it.

“The Federal Government is living up to its responsibilities to the people of this area through the construction of access roads to open up the area. The much craved Oweto Bridge is at 60 per cent completion stage. I want you to complement these achievements by living in peace irrespective of your social, religious and cultural differences.

“We expect that work will be completed on that project very soon, in line with the promise the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led government made to the people, and that is why we urge everyone in Benue State to support and vote the PDP in the coming elections because we have kept faith with the people.”
