Political activist Aisha Yesufu has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has already lost the 2027 presidential election, citing what she described as a lack of public support for the administration.

Yesufu made the remarks on Thursday, March 5, during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television.

According to the activist, the President’s reported efforts to attract state governors into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) indicate that he lacks the popular support required to secure victory in the next presidential election.

She argued that assembling political allies at the state level creates only an “illusion of power” and does not necessarily translate into electoral success.

“Bola Tinubu has already lost; that’s why he is looking for governors that he’d put together to have an illusion of power,” Yesufu said.

Drawing a comparison with past political developments, she noted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) once controlled more than 20 state governments but still lost power during the 2015 Nigerian presidential election.

“Yes, PDP had over 20 governors at one point, but it didn’t stop them from losing when the time came,” she said.

Yesufu also claimed that the ruling party has struggled to attract grassroots enthusiasm, contrasting it with what she described as growing interest around the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In addition to her political comments, the activist criticized the current state of governance in the country, expressing concern over economic hardship and security challenges.

“Right now, Nigeria as a whole is a glitch. There is nothing working, whether economically or in terms of security,” she said.

She further lamented the prevalence of kidnappings and violent attacks, adding that many Nigerians feel the country is at a standstill.

“Nigeria is a glitch on its own; it’s on a standstill. There’s no governance and nothing is going on,” Yesufu stated.

Nigeria’s next presidential election is expected to hold in 2027.
