Political Activist, Aisha Yesufu has sounded the alarm over what she described as a “sickeningly alarming” rate of casualties among Nigerian soldiers, calling on the National Assembly to take urgent measures to protect troops and their families.

Yesufu questioned the legislature’s response to the rising military deaths, asking whether lawmakers had summoned relevant authorities to explain the situation and what legislative actions had been taken to improve the welfare and protection of soldiers.

She also raised concerns about the families of fallen troops, urging clarity on the support systems in place for relatives of slain military personnel.

“The country is losing our soldiers at a sickeningly alarming rate. Where is the National Assembly? They were voted to represent the people and safeguard their interests,” Yesufu said. “Who have they summoned to ask what is going on? What laws have they enacted to ensure soldiers and their families are protected? What happens to the families of our fallen heroes?”

Yesufu warned that the absence of decisive leadership from the Commander-in-Chief is concerning, but added that a “controlled and inactive” National Assembly could be equally damaging.

Her comments come amid growing public concern over security challenges and the safety of military personnel deployed across Nigeria.
