The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Ibadan Branch, gathered at the historic Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, for its 2025 End-of-Year Luncheon, tagged: "Chic, Charming and Cheerful."
The luncheon was a vibrant and uplifting event designed to celebrate women scientists, reflect on the year’s accomplishments, and strengthen bonds among female researchers across diverse disciplines. It provided a refreshing close to the year while creating space for networking, relaxation, and shared inspiration.
Held annually, the OWSD Ibadan end-of-year luncheon has become a cherished tradition—offering women in science the opportunity to unwind, reconnect, and re-energize for the year ahead. Although the 2025 edition did not adopt a formal scientific theme, it was infused with the signature spirit of camaraderie, laughter, music, fine cuisine, and fellowship that defines OWSD Ibadan gatherings.
The OWSD Ibadan Coordinator, Prof. Aina O. Adeogun, FAS, expressed delight at seeing members come together to celebrate their collective strength and achievements, despite the demanding nature of their professional and personal responsibilities.
Speaking at the event, she said: “This is another opportunity to relax and enjoy, to look back at what we have done this year and thank God for His grace. We are here to celebrate unity. As women, we juggle so much—family, children, husbands, work—and many times we forget to care for ourselves. Today, we gather to celebrate ourselves.”
Prof. Adeogun, FAS, also highlighted key activities undertaken by the Ibadan Branch during the year, noting that the organization continued to advance its mission through capacity-building trainings, mentorship programmes, outreach to secondary schools, and collaborative research engagements aimed at strengthening women’s participation in science.
The 2025 luncheon attracted a distinguished assembly of accomplished women in academia and research. Among those in attendance were Prof. Antonia Taye Simbine; Prof. Aderonke Baiyeroju; Dr. Mercy Iroaganachi; Prof. Janice Olawoye; Prof. Oyedunni Arulogun; Prof. Olufunke Eunice Ola-Davies; Dr. Folusho Agunlana, among several others who have made remarkable contributions to knowledge, innovation, and community development.
