Nigeria Police begin recruitment of 50,000 constables

The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force have begun the recruitment of 50,000 police constables, following approval from President Bola Tinubu.

A statement on Thursday by the Head of Protocol and Public Affairs at the Commission, Torty Njoku Kalu, announced that the portal will be open from Monday, 15 December 2025, and will close on Sunday, 25 January 2026, during which eligible Nigerians are expected to submit their applications online.

It assured that the exercise would be conducted in the “most transparent, merit-based and credible manner,” noting that “application is free as there will be no payment required at any stage of the process.”

According to the statement, the Commission has approved the opening of the recruitment portal for applications from eligible holders of GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE/NECO or their equivalents with a minimum of five (5) credits (including English Language and Mathematics) in not more than two sittings to be recruited into general duty.

The statement explained that specialist cadre applicants must be holders of GCE Ordinary Level, SSCE/NECO or their equivalents with a minimum of four (4) credits (including English Language and Mathematics) in not more than two sittings.

It said a minimum of three (3) years’ experience and Trade Tests in relevant fields/areas is required, adding that Interested candidates must be Nigerian citizens by birth, and must be between 18 and 25 years old for General Duty; 18 to 28 years for Specialists.

It also specified that the applicants must be medically, physically and psychologically fit.

“Not be less than 1.67m (male) and 1.64m (female) in height (for General Duty only),” it added.
