President Bola Tinubu has expressed his pleasure over the Senate’s confirmation of General Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s Minister of Defence.

Tinubu, in a personally signed statement released on Thursday via his 𝕏 account, commended the Senate for the quick confirmation of Musa.

He noted that the lawmakers concluded the assignment within forty-eight hours of forwarding his name to the National Assembly for screening and confirmation.

The President stated that Musa is coming on board as the Minister of Defence at a critical time in Nigeria’s security situation.

“Two days ago, I transmitted the name of General Christopher G. Musa, our immediate past Chief of Defence Staff and a fine gentleman, to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation as the Federal Minister of Defence.

“I want to commend the Nigerian Senate for its expedited confirmation of General Musa yesterday. His appointment comes at a critical juncture in our lives as a Nation.

“God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Tinubu wrote.

Earlier, Tori News reported that the Senate on Wednesday confirmed General Christopher Musa (rtd) as the new Minister of Defence for Nigeria.

Musa was confirmed by the lawmakers after about five hours of grilling, questioning and interrogations by members of the upper legislative chamber.

It would be recalled that President Tinubu had nominated Musa for appointment as a replacement for Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who resigned from the position based on health grounds.

During his screening, Musa pledged to carry out a zero-tolerance policy on banditry and terrorism once he assumes office.

He assured Senators that he would deploy firm and decisive strategies to confront the country’s security threats.
