Gov. Rauf Aregbesola
The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) on Tuesday gave a seven-day notice to Osun government to remit pension funds deducted from its staff’s salary or face legal procedures.
Mr Smart Olugbeko, National Vice Chairman of the union gave the notice at a mass rally in Ilesha to press home demands of members of the union.
The rally was organized by Academic Staff of Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and the COEASU under the umbrella of Council of Academic Staff Unions of Osun State Owned Tertiary Institutions (CASUOSTI).
Olugbeko said the need to go to court for redress of the non- remittance of pension deductions was reached after all avenues to make
the government see reason failed.
According to him, “The law is very clear on the issue of remitting deductions into pension fund accounts. Upon deduction of the
percentage to be contributed by the employee, such deduction should be
remitted within seven days.
‘’For several months, workers of the State owned institutions are at a loss where their pension deductions are. The non remittance of
deductions also includes union dues, cooperative dues and individual loan repayments.
‘’Naturally, these deductions are not supposed to be tampered with, so we are at a point to drag the government and the governor to court for appropriate interpretation.”
Mr Sunday Agholor, South West scribe of COEASU also asked Osun government to address casualisation of workers which, according to him, was against the rules of labour.
