Pharm. Elechi Kenneth Oyim is a highly distinguished pharmaceutical practitioner known for his exemplary contributions to the field of pharmacy and healthcare in Nigeria. Born on December 1, 1973, to the Late Chief Justus Oyim Elechi in Ozizza, Ebonyi State, he is the first of six children in a family that deeply values education and knowledge.

His academic journey is marked by excellence, beginning at Federal Polytechnic Staff School, Unwana, continuing at Marist Comprehensive Academy, Uturu, and culminating at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he graduated with distinction in Medicinal Chemistry in 1998. For his outstanding character, he was named the 'Most Easy-going Male Student of his class.

In pursuit of continuous improvement, Pharm. Elechi obtained a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutics (Formulation Science) in 2008, followed by a Master of Public Health (MPH) in 2016. Additionally, he became a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists in Drug Production and Quality Assurance in 2014, reinforcing his qualifications as a certified public health practitioner and a USAID-trained consultant in Health Commodities Supply Chain Management.

Pharm. Elechi's professional tenure is characterized by innovation and dedication. He served as the Assistant National Secretary of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN) in 2007, where he co-authored the memorandum establishing the Consultant Pharmacist Cadre, a significant advancement approved by the National Council on Establishment (NCE). As the National Secretary of AHAPN from 2009 to 2012, he played a critical role in defending the consultant cadre proposal before the NCE, ensuring its successful adoption.

As a visionary reformer, he authored the Essential Drugs, Hospital Consumables, and Therapeutic Medical Devices Provision, Management, and Utilization in Public Health Institutions Bill, 2021, which successfully passed the initial legislative readings in the 9th National Assembly. His commitment to public health and pharmaceutical excellence led him to be appointed Secretary of the National Drug Reservoir Fund Committee.

In addition to his pivotal role with AHAPN, Pharm. Elechi served as the Assistant National Secretary of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) from 2012 to 2015, acting as National Secretary at various times. From 2017 to 2021, he contributed significantly to crucial position papers and national health policies within the PSN. His revitalization efforts of the comatose PSN Ebonyi State Branch resulted in renewed activities and leadership, earning him a commendation letter and recognition as a Fellow of the PSN in 2021.

Pharm. Elechi's leadership journey continued as he served as Deputy National Chairman of AHAPN from 2021 to 2024, and in August 2024, he was elected National Chairman of AHAPN, a position he currently holds. He remains an influential member of the National Executive Committee of the PSN.

His contributions to the Pharmacy Department at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA) are noteworthy. Since beginning his career there in 2001 as a Grade One Pharmacist, he has transformed the department into a model of excellence in pharmaceutical services in Ebonyi State.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Pharm. Elechi is known for his engaging personality and extensive network that spans political, professional, and cultural circles. Despite his high-ranking roles, he exemplifies humility, integrity, and generosity, earning admiration from peers and subordinates alike. Gifted with a keen intellect, he can engage meaningfully across various disciplines, showcasing his remarkable versatility.

Pharm. Elechi is happily married to Dr. Oluchukwu Oyim-Elechi, a Consultant Paediatrician, and together they are blessed with children.
