The Zoological Society of Nigeria (ZSN), University of Ibadan Chapter, is set to host its 18th Annual Conference from November 25–28, 2025, bringing together leading scholars, policymakers, researchers, and industry experts to explore the theme “Healthy Ecosystem: Path to Productivity and Sustainability.”
According to the organizing committee, the four-day event will feature robust discussions across several sub-themes, including Agriculture and Food Security; Environmental Health and Plastic Pollution; One Health and Sustainable Tropical Disease Control; Ethical Issues, Innovation and AI Revolution in Scientific Research; Bioinformatics, Biotechnology and Computational Biology; and Biodiversity, Conservation and Sustainable Development.
The Opening Ceremony will take place at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, while subsequent sessions will hold at the Lakeside Lecture Theatre, Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan.
The conference is expected to attract high-profile personalities and distinguished scholars. Former President of Nigeria, His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, GCON, will serve as Chairman of the Opening Ceremony. The First Lady of Ogun State, Her Excellency Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, will be the Special Guest of Honour.
Also scheduled to deliver keynote addresses are:
- Prof. Bernard Bolaji Babatunde, Special Adviser to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation
- Prof. Christian Happi, Director, African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID), Redeemer’s University
- Prof. Alexander Odaibo, National President, Zoological Society of Nigeria
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, will serve as Chief Host. The Head of the Department of Zoology and Chairperson of the Local Organizing Committee, Prof. Aina O. Adeogun, said preparations are in top gear to ensure a highly impactful and memorable conference.
“This year’s conference is designed to address urgent issues affecting our environment, our food systems, and public health,” she said. “Participants can expect intensive scientific sessions, keynote presentations from globally respected experts, exhibitions, student sessions, networking opportunities, and strategic dialogues that will shape policy and research directions in Nigeria and beyond.”

The National Secretary of ZSN, Prof. Dauda Tanko, and the Secretary of the Local Organizing Committee, Dr. E.D. Omogbemi, reaffirmed the society’s commitment to facilitating high-level academic engagement and fostering collaborations with national and international stakeholders.
The 18th Annual Conference is expected to draw participants from universities, research institutions, government agencies, and the private sector.
