President Goodluck Jonathan has cautioned religious leaders not to make inflammatory comments on the forthcoming elections.

He gave the advice on Saturday at the passing-out parade of Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and Inspectors of Police in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government area of Ogun State

Represented by Minister of Police Affairs, Abdul-Jelili Adesiyan, the President noted that such utterances can go a long way to make or mar the peace and security of the nation.

Mr. Jonathan said his administration has demonstrated total commitment to the conduct of peaceful and violence free elections in the country.

He assured that police officers will demonstrate professionalism in the elections and stated that his administration has ensured a murder free election process so far.

“For the first time in the history of politics in this country, we have a President that has demonstrated total commitment to the conduct of peaceful and violence free elections,” the minister said of the president.

“Notably is the past five years, there has not been political killings and assassinations that characterized previous government in Nigeria. In this way, Mr President has amply demonstrated in words and action his unalloyed commitment to peaceful and violence free elections for the country’.

“I want to assure our citizens that in the conduct of the 2015 general elections, our policemen have been trained and will continue to demonstrate professionalism and act with impartiality and exhibit due respect for the rights of the citizens in order to guarantee the safety and security of all before, during and after the elections.”

He congratulated the graduating officers and charged them to see the training as a call to re-dedication to national duty.

In his speech, the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, noted that the Nigeria Police is currently facing multi-faceted security challenges and needs a multi-faceted approach to deal with them.

The police boss, who was represented by Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of operations, Hashimu Argungu, said despite the challenges, Nigeria Police remains stronger, safer, and more respected in security.

The police chief warned the graduating officers that the force will not tolerate corrupt and indolent officers.

A total of 306 Cadets comprising 218 Assistant Superintendents of Police and 88 Inspectors passed out from the Police College of Information Technology, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
