Jimi Agbaje
The Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, on Thursday, said he will defeat the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Akinwunmi Ambode, in the February 28 governorship election.
He said he was contesting against a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Governor Babatunde Fashola and Ambode.
Agbaje, however, boasted that he would crush the three of them.
Speaking at a rally in Amuwo-Odofin and Apapa areas of Lagos, Agbaje said attacks against him by the APC would not deter him from winning the elections.
“One by one, I will give Tinubu, Fashola and Ambode a total knockout,” he said to cheers from his supporters.
Describing Tinubu as the puppeteer of Fashola and Ambode, Agbaje said it was strange to be described as too old to be a governor, citing the age of the APC presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
He said Fashola’s claim that he defaulted in the payment of tax was a true reflection of the desperation of the APC.
Agbaje said, “To do well is for our children to pass their exams. To do well is for poor people to have houses they can afford. To do well is for people to have a suitable environment to do their trades and run their businesses. Whether they worked hard or not is not the issue. They have worked hard but they have failed. This election, God has given it to us. They cannot continue. To continue is when you have passed.
“This election is not about experience but qualification. Jimi Agbaje does not have experience for political office, but he is qualified to lead Lagos. They say I don’t have government experience. Tinubu was just a senator for three months before becoming governor. For me, what is most important is qualification and I am qualified to be Lagos State governor.”
Agbaje flayed the Fashola administration, saying his policies had caused hardship for Lagosians.
He assured non-indigenes in the state that his administration would not encourage discrimination.
Agbaje said, “Trying to deport strangers from Lagos is like trying to stop the flow of a river with your hand. Is it possible?”
He also promised that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be rebranded and not scrapped, saying, “the problem with the agency is that it had strayed from its statutory duty of traffic management to imposing draconian fines on motorists in order to generate funds for the government.”
