The Geneith Health Competition (GHC) has emerged as a transformative initiative aimed at fostering a clean environment and promoting health awareness among students in secondary and tertiary institutions across Nigeria. This campaign addresses the urgent need for a proactive approach to combat malaria, a silent but deadly disease that continues to pose significant health challenges in the nation.

At the flag-off event for the GHC held at the Federal Cooperative College, Eleyele, Ibadan, where the initiator, Prince Cletus Ilobanafor, MD/CEO of CEOAFRICA, shared the vision behind this national campaign. He emphasized, "We are carrying on a national campaign focused on institutions for Nigerian students who own and take their destiny into their hands in the fight against malaria. Malaria is one of the most deadly diseases that Nigeria is facing, yet it often goes unrecognized as a silent killer. In terms of economic deprivation, malaria is causing us a whole lot in this country."

Ilobanafor further explained the importance of this initiative: "The best way to eliminate malaria is through prevention. If we have ambassadors of malaria who decide to clean up drainage around their school environments and hostels, we can begin to eliminate the breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which transmit the disease. Prevention will start from there, and then we can tackle the main issues affecting our health."

This initiative also aligns with ongoing efforts by the present administration to enhance healthcare delivery in Nigeria. By proactively engaging students in cleanliness campaigns, the GHC aims to foster a culture of health awareness and environmental responsibility among young Nigerians.

Students are encouraged to take responsibility not only for their health but also for their surroundings. Keeping campuses and hostels clean is essential to reducing mosquito breeding sites and preventing malaria transmission. This involves proper waste disposal, regular cleaning of drainage systems, and maintaining overall cleanliness to create a healthier environment.

The Geneith Health Competition serves as an essential platform for students to display their commitment to health advocacy while fostering teamwork and community engagement. Through their participation, students will develop skills in health advocacy, gain exposure to potential health-related careers, and contribute to creating a malaria-free Nigeria.

As the GHC progresses, it calls upon all stakeholders, including educational institutions and community members, to join the fight against malaria by supporting initiatives that promote health and cleanliness. Together, we can build a future where malaria is no longer a threat, reinforcing the need for a clean and safe environment for all.
