In a remarkable display of leadership and commitment to student welfare, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Ganiyu, the Provost of the Federal Cooperative College, Eleyele, Ibadan, officially embraced the Geneith Health Competition (GHC), a nationwide initiative aimed at combating malaria among students.

The recent flag-off ceremony highlighted his dedication to tackling health challenges facing the student body and showcased the proactive measures he is taking to enhance their well-being.

In his opening remarks at the flag-off, Dr. Ganiyu emphasized the importance of the GHC, stating, “The Federal Cooperative College, Eleyele has always been part of events like this. Bringing this initiative to us at this point in time is a good thing. The college is ready to take up this initiative.

"Malaria is a killer disease; everything we need to do is to support this initiative. One of the pillars of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s eight-point agenda is to revitalize the healthcare system for the benefit of all. As part of this pillar, the college is also ready to key into this to enhance that important goal of the president.”

Dr. Abdul Ganiyu further elaborated on the pressing health issue posed by malaria within the college, revealing that approximately 90% of students who seek medical attention at the school clinic report symptoms related to malaria. In a decisive move to support student health, he announced that the college would procure 1,000 pieces of malaria medication to ensure students remain healthy and are well-prepared to participate fully in the competition.

Comrade Emmanuel Aluko, President of the Students Union Government (SUG) at the Federal Cooperative College, praised Dr. Ganiyu for his student-centered approach. He referred to the provost as a "student-friendly leader" and expressed gratitude for his endorsement of the GHC, stating, “By enrolling our students in this initiative, the provost has shown he truly cares for our well-being. This decision has brought light to our institution.”

The GHC, organized by CEOAFRICA and supported by Geneith Pharmaceuticals, aims to educate and empower students to be ambassadors in the fight against malaria. The college's proactive involvement in the GHC not only highlights its commitment to student health but also reinforces its role as a leader in public health advocacy.

As the Geneith Health Competition progresses, Dr. Abdul Ganiyu's leadership stands as a beacon of hope, inspiring not only students at the Federal Cooperative College but also the larger educational community to actively engage in health initiatives and advocate for a malaria-free Nigeria.
