The management of the Lagos State University (LASU) has warned its staff and students to limit movement within the Iba community during the upcoming annual Oro festival rites.

In a statement, Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, LASU deputy registrar, said the school received formal communication from the palace of Sulaimon Adeshina Raji-Ashade, the monarch of Iba kingdom, alongside community elders, about the nine-day festival.

The rites are scheduled for Monday, August 25, and Friday, August 29, 2025, between 9:30 am and 11:00 am on both days.

The school directed all staff and students to refrain from unnecessary movement within the community during the specified hours to safeguard the well-being of members of the LASU community residing in Iba and its environs.

It also advised that academic, administrative, and personal activities be arranged outside the affected timeframe.

LASU urged strict compliance with the directive and reminded everyone to remain law-abiding throughout the festival period.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of its community and encouraged cooperation.

“All staff and students are to refrain from unnecessary movement within the Iba community during the stipulated hours (9:30 am – 11:00 am),” the statement reads in part.

“All academic, administrative and personal activities should be scheduled to take place outside the affected timeframe.

“Staff and students are to exercise caution, remain law-abiding, and comply strictly with this directive.”

The statement added that the palace of the Oniba of Iba has indicated its readiness to provide additional information as may be required.
