The West African Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN), and the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, proudly announces the launch of 'Malnutrition Awareness Week.'

Scheduled for September 8-12, 2025, this important initiative aims to raise awareness about malnutrition and promote effective strategies to combat this pressing health issue across the region.

Under the banner of "United Against Malnutrition," the campaign will feature a series of events, workshops, and outreach programs aimed at educating healthcare professionals, community leaders, and the public about the critical need to address malnutrition in all its forms.

Dr. Teresa Isichei Pounds, the Founder and President of WASPEN, emphasizes the significance of this initiative: “Malnutrition is a silent epidemic that needs urgent attention. Through Malnutrition Awareness Week, we are committed to shedding light on this issue and mobilizing efforts to ensure that every individual has access to the nutrition they need to thrive."

The collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health underscores the government's commitment to prioritizing nutritional health as part of its broader health agenda. The week will include expert-led sessions on nutrition education, public health strategies, and innovative solutions aimed at reducing malnutrition rates in the community.

The campaign encourages active involvement from all sectors, including healthcare providers, educators, and the general public. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in workshops designed to equip them with the knowledge and tools necessary for addressing malnutrition effectively.

As part of the awareness week, participants are encouraged to share their experiences and strategies using the hashtags #ASPENMAW25 and #WASPENMAW25 to amplify their voices and connect with a larger network dedicated to tackling malnutrition.

Join us in this vital campaign to unite against malnutrition and improve the health outcomes of our communities. Together, we can work towards a healthier, nourished future for all!
