Professor Aina O. Adeogun has been appointed as the new Head of the Department of Zoology at the University of Ibadan, with her official position commencing on Friday, August 1, 2025. A distinguished scientist with a specialization in Molecular and Cellular Toxicology, particularly in Aquatic Toxicology, Prof. Adeogun brings a wealth of expertise and a commitment to advancing the field.

Expressing her excitement about this new role, Prof. Adeogun stated, “I am honored to lead the Department of Zoology and continue the tradition of excellence at the University of Ibadan. My primary goal is to enhance our research initiatives and foster a collaborative environment that nurtures both students and faculty.”

In her vision for the department, she emphasized the importance of addressing critical environmental issues affecting aquatic ecosystems. “My research has always focused on the toxicological impacts on aquatic life, and I believe we must tackle these challenges proactively,” she said. “I aim to expand research opportunities that not only contribute to environmental conservation but also ensure our findings have real-world applications.”

Her appointment is further underscored by her impressive credentials, including her status as a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Sciences (NAS) and her role as the Coordinator for the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Ibadan Branch.
