Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, on Friday night approved the immediate suspension of top officials at the Katsina State Reformatory Centre, Babbar Ruga, following findings from an investigation into the torture and mishandling of an inmate, Usman Musa.

The Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, confirmed the suspension of the Centre’s Principal, Abdulzahir Abubakar, Vice Principal, Bala Abubakar, and a porter, Yunusa Yusuf, citing their roles in the incident, which led to the amputation of the victim’s left hand and serious injury to his right.

A statement issued by Abdullahi Yar’adua, Chief Press Secretary to the Secretary to the State Government, emphasized that the action reflects the administration’s commitment to upholding human rights, enforcing accountability, and promoting institutional reform.

In addition to the suspensions, Governor Radda approved the immediate termination of Murtala Suleiman, a casual staff member found complicit in the incident.

Demonstrating a commitment to the victim’s recovery, the governor also approved ₦970,000 to cover medical expenses and ₦35 million for a sensor-enabled prosthetic hand to support the victim’s rehabilitation and reintegration.
