Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan, has declared that nobody has the capacity to split Nigeria, saying his administration will continue to forge ahead and solidify the unity of Nigeria as be quoted by the founding fathers.

President Jonathan, who disclosed this at the presidential rally of the PDP in Jos, on Monday, said the likes of the former head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, worked assiduously to keep Nigeria together, adding that the present generation needed to sustain the legacy of unity.

“Plateau is a home of peace and tourism, as Plateau has produced many great leaders, like the former head of state, Gowon, the late J.D. Gomwalk, Chief Solomon Lar, who worked to sustain the unity of Nigeria. Nobody can split this country, as we are going to forge ahead with the unity of this country just like Gowon did; we would not relent in our efforts. We must emulate our leaders who never joked with the unity of this country.”

He said PDP was a great party which accommodate all shades of opinions and people of different backgrounds, adding that it was the only party in Nigeria that was not owned by anybody and where members could aspire to get to any height.

“Nobody owns the PDP; it is the only party that a younger person can express his interest. It is the only Democratic Party in Nigeria. PDP leaders don’t intimidate or discriminate, it is the only party that can lead Nigeria to the next level, because it is the only party that gives freedom to every Nigerian,” he said.

On the achievements of his administration, President Jonathan said the government, in the last four years, had made tremendous achievements in the area of infrastructural development, adding that railway has come back to life, while agriculture is receiving attention.

In his address, Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State said the coming of President Jonathan was just a mere formality, adding that the people of Plateau State were solidly behind the party and had not at any time abandoned the party.

Jang, therefore, made passionate appeal to the president to prevail on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to allow the electorate to vote with their temporary voter cards in the February election.

“There are many people without the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Plateau State, including myself. We are, therefore, appealing to you to allow those of us with temporary cards to vote. We tried it during the local government election here in Plateau State and it worked without any problem. If not, the number of votes for you in February election might not be as expected,” he said.

In speech, the Senate President David Mark assured the president that the people of the North Central would vote massively for the PDP at all levels come February, just as he enjoined the people of Plateau State to come out en masse to exercise their civic responsibility on election day.
