As we approach "IFEADIGO 2025" of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), we are 48 days down, and the anticipation is palpable. Did you know that Chinyere Stella Okunna, the first female professor of Mass Communication in Nigeria, hails from Uga in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State? Her remarkable contributions to academia and women's empowerment exemplify the spirit of progress that this conference embodies.
Professor Okunna has excelled in various capacities as an administrator and educationist within academia, as well as in the public and political arenas. Her research interests focus on communication for development, with a keen emphasis on women's development through the lens of media. She has made significant strides in highlighting the vital role of the media in enhancing the condition and status of Nigerian women, effectively challenging the patriarchal narratives that often dominate society.
Born into the Adimora family, Professor Okunna began her educational journey at St. John’s Primary School in Ekwulobia. She pursued higher education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. Continuing her academic journey, she obtained a Master of Arts from the University of Leicester, England, and later completed her Ph.D. in Mass Communication at the University of Lagos.
As we prepare for the 44th Annual International Scientific Conference, taking place from July 22 to 27, 2025, at the International Conference Center in Awka, Anambra, we are reminded of the transformative influence of leaders like Professor Okunna. The conference theme, “Technology Integration and Personalized Care: The Future of Community Pharmacists’ Practice in Nigeria,” aligns seamlessly with her commitment to utilizing communication and media as powerful tools for societal development.
"IFEADIGO 2025" will celebrate the vibrant contributions of Anambra's intellectual community while fostering dialogue about innovations in healthcare. As we gather to exchange ideas and inspire one another, let us honor the legacy of trailblazers like Chinyere Stella Okunna, whose work empowers future generations.
