As we approach 52 days until the 44th Annual International Scientific Conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), we celebrate the esteemed legacy of Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe CFR, mni, the 21st Obi of Onitsha and a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s leadership landscape.

Born on May 14, 1941, Igwe Achebe has made extraordinary contributions to both traditional leadership and corporate governance. Since 2015, he has served as the Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University and previously held the same position at Kogi State University. His influence extends to the corporate arena, where he currently chairs the board of directors for Unilever Nigeria and International Breweries (ABInBev) Nigeria.

Before his ascension as the Obi of Onitsha in 2002, Igwe Achebe enjoyed a long and distinguished career with the Royal Dutch Shell Group, serving as a director in various capacities across multiple countries. After graduating from university, he briefly worked in the United States before returning home in 1972 following the Nigerian civil war, where he then began his impactful journey with Shell Petroleum Company.

In addition to his corporate roles, Igwe Achebe is a dedicated leader within traditional governance, currently serving as a trustee of the National Traditional Rulers Council and its state chairman in Anambra State. His extensive experience includes directorship in several Shell companies across the globe, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Liberia, and Angola during the period of 1985 to 1987.
