Mixed reactions yesterday trailed the call by the National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki that the forthcoming general elections should be postponed.

Some of the lawmakers who spoke to Saturday Vanguard described the NSA’s call as a grand plot by the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP to rubbish democracy.

Others had argued that the action was timely as the apex electoral body was ill-prepared for the election.

Anything worth doing at all, is worth doing well-Hon Kyari Gujbawu, PDP, Maiduguri Federal Metropolis

Gujbawu in his reaction said,”I’m a firm believer in the dictum that says” anything worth doing at all is worth doing well”. I did read part of what the NSA said as carried in the newspapers.

“And I totally concur with the NSA and of course along with other well meaning Nigerians who are in the same page that INEC is hardly to be said to be properly and well prepared I to conduct the forthcoming general elections in a free, fair and all inclusive election where a large segment of the voting population will not be disenfranchised.

“Look at the case of the Insurgency affected areas for example, Jega has said they cannot capture more than two thirds of the LGAs in Borno where I come from, but still wants to conduct election in any manner possible. I think that there are ample provisions in our extant laws upon which INEC can navigate to prepare itself in conjunction with other relevant agencies of government to capture most of these citizens whose constitutional right to vote could be denied if the elections hold as it is now planned.

” What I believe is most sacrosanct in democracy is the right to vote as against keeping to flexible dates that our laws have provided for.

The NSA has no role to play in the distribution of PVCs-Minority Leader, Femi Gbajabiamila, APC Lagos.

Gbajabiamila in his submission said, “This was the plot all along. The NSA has no role to play in the distribution of Permanent voter cards. Whatever they do and however they do it they cannot go against the provisions of the constitution which is sacrosanct and must be obeyed.

“Elections remain a democratic process with a 4 year cycle under our constitution. The lifespan and the life of this government end May 2015 unless the constitution is amended.

“And of course we all know what happened the last time an attempt was made to amend the constitution for the purpose of extending the tenure of a sitting government”.

The NSA is acting the script of PDP-Minority Whip, Samson Osagie, APC Edo

Osagie said “the NSA is acting the script of the ruling PDP and the Presidency”.

INEC HAS SAID IT IS READY FOR THE ELECTION AND NIGERIANS ARE READY TOO. It’s part of the Grand design to scuttle the transition from one democratic government to another simply because the ruling party is seeing defeat.
