Thursday, 13 May 2021: The Catholic Bishop of Oyo Diocese, Most Revd Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo, on Thursday felicitated with all Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr celebration.

In an exclusive chat with CEOAFRICA, Bishop Badejo thanked the “Almighty God along with our brothers and sisters that we can witness the end of the Holy month of Ramadan and celebrate Eid al-Fitr in relative peace in spite of all our security challenges.”

In his words, “I congratulate all Muslims in Nigeria, particularly in Oyo State for the happy conclusion of the fast and for the numerous graces they have received from Almighty God (Allah).”

The Catholic Bishop said nothing meet God unprepared stressing that the uniqueness of celebrating Eid al-Fitr when Christians are celebrating the Ascension of Jesus to heaven is unique and for members of the two religions to see themselves as one, brothers and sisters and be holy to serve their maker.

According to him, “There are no coincidences with God and everything somehow fits in his plan. The Muslim celebration this year coincides with the solemnity of the Ascension of Jesus to heaven. It is a call for all Christians to love holy lives. I pray that all the prayer, fasting and almsgiving of our Muslim brethren will also work for the cleansing and healing of Nigerians and of our country Nigeria from all manners of evil and wrongdoing.”

“I pray that the spiritual values and ideals imbibed during this period endure for a long time and be demonstrated in good neighbourliness, peaceful coexistence with others, generosity and Godliness. Let us all continue to pray for our dear country Nigeria.
“Let us join hands to eschew every kind of violence and injustice in order to create a better Nigeria.
“Let us pray also for our leaders for the wisdom to always do right before God. If we all obey God’s commandments of justice and love Almighty God will answer our prayers and heal our land and people. May He bless you and your families.”

He concluded by saying, “Happy solemnity of the Ascension, joyful Eid al-Fitr to all our Muslim brethren. God brings people together, let’s not divide them.”
