Anambra police command says Charles Soludo, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is safe.

Soludo was attacked by gunmen at an event in Aguata LGA, Anambra, on Wednesday, CEOAFRICA had reported.

According to report, three police officers providing security for him were killed in the attack.

Monday Kuryas, the state police commissioner, on Thursday, said Soludo is safe.

But he said Emeka Ezenwanne, the state commissioner for public utilities, was abducted by the gunmen.

“The former CBN governor was holding a town hall meeting with the youths of his community called Isuofia in Aguata local government area of the state,” he said.

“Suddenly, unknown gunmen attacked my men that were providing security for him. In the exchange of fire, three of my men were killed but the professor is safe.

“However, the commissioner for public utilities, Engr Emeka Ezenwanne, was abducted in the process and my men are on the heels of the abductors.”

There has been tension in Anambra following attacks targeting security agents and individuals in the state.

Willie Obiano, Anambra governor, recently said the state is under siege by criminals.
