The impeached Deputy Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludare Kadiri, has kicked against his purported removal and described it as “grossly unconstitutional and illegal.”

Kadiri, reacting to his removal on Thursday, said he was consulting his lawyers to challenge “the infraction.”

He said “I’ve just received the news of my purported removal based on the report of an ad-hoc committee set up by the House of Assembly. The development, to say the least, was grossly unconstitutional and illegal.

“However, I have initiated consultation with my lawyers to fashion out the best possible way to address this infraction. I urge my teeming supporters, constituents and members of my political party in Ijebu North II State Constituency to remain calm, as the issues that threw up this unwarranted action are sorted.

“In whatever capacity I find myself now or in future, I remain committed to the ideals of a functional legislature, tenets of democracy and good governance.”

Recall that CEOAFRICA reported the impeachment of Kadiri over allegation of gross misconduct.

The removal as Deputy Speaker was pronounced on Thursday by the Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomon, after the ad-hoc committee constituted to investigate the allegations against him found him guilty.

The Ogun State Police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that Kadiri was arrested for allegedly leading a team of thugs to attack some politicians, including the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, in Oru-Ijebu, Ijebu North Local Government.

He was detained at the Criminal Investigation Department, but later released.

Subsequently, some of his colleagues signed a petition seeking his removal.

19 out of 26 members of the assembly voted for his impeachment.
