The abducted Pastor of Ekiliziyan Eyanuwa a Nigeriya (Church of Brethren in Nigeria) Borno State, Bulus Yakura, has been freed from Boko Haram.

Security sources confirmed to journalists that the cleric was released by the jihadists on Wednesday evening.

Yakuru was abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in Pemi village, Borno State, on December 24 last year.

Yakura had in video released by Boko Haram last week urged the Federal Government and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to save him from imminent death.

The insurgents threatened to kill the cleric if the government fails to meet their demands by March 4.

In a swift response to Yakura’s appeal, CAN in a statement issued by its President, Samson Ayokunle, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the rescue of Yakura.

In a statement titled: “President Buhari should rescue Pastor Yakuru from his captors and save the nation from collapsing,” the Christian Association said if former United States President, Donald Trump, could order the military to rescue one American abducted by the insurgents in Nigeria, nothing should stop Buhari from doing the same.

The release of Yakura has got the Nigerian Army commendation from a women group called Mothers for United Nigeria (MUN).

MUN commended the Military and other security agencies for the release of Borno State-based cleric and rescue of 26 humanitarian workers.

The group in a statement on Thursday, noted that the efforts of the Nigerian Army have continued to give hope to mothers across the country who are worried over the security challenges.

According to the statement signed by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Hajia Salamatu Adebayo, the mothers across the country will continue to pray for the personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria for their safety and success in quelling the security situation in the country.

“As mothers, we are worried over what the country is going through. But the release of Pastor Yakura of Ekiliziyan Eyanuwa a Nigeriya, EYN (Church of Brethren in Nigeria) and timely intervention that led to the rescue of the 26 humanitarian workers by the military gives us hope that our country will overcome the present challenges.

“No mother will be happy what the country is going through. Some mothers have their sons and daughters in the various arms of the military and in the battlefront. We are worried. We are concerned. We are faint. But we rest assured that they are fighting for the good of the country.

“This is time for all mothers to pray for our country and our military personnel, that God will continue to give them wisdom and victory in all fronts”, the statement read.
