Veteran broadcaster, actor, Sadiq Daba, dies

The veteran broadcaster and actor, Sadiq Daba, died on Wednesday evening.

Daba’s death was confirmed by the Lagos Network Centre of the Nigerian Television Authority on its Twitter handle.

It was reported that he died after battling leukaemia and cancer for years.

It tweeted, “Sad News; Veteran broadcaster and Nollywood actor Sadiq Daba is dead. He died this evening (Wednesday) after a long and excruciating battle with leukemia and prostate cancer. May his Gentle Soul Rest in Perfect Peace #RIPSadiqDaba.”

His death was also confirmed by filmmaker Kunle Afolayan with whom he worked recently on the 2020 motion picture, Citation.

Afolayan stated the ace broadcaster died on the evening of Wednesday, March 3rd.

In 2017, Daba was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia and later prostate cancer for which he underwent several treatments.

In 2015, he won Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor for his role as ‘Inspector Waziri’ in Kunle Afolayan’s October 1.

Daba made waves in the 1980s on Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

He has featured in several TV series and movies, with ‘Cock Crow at Dawn’ and ‘October 1st’ as notable mentions.

He was last seen acting in Kunle Afolayan’s 2020 movie, ‘Citation’ as Professor Yahaya.
