INSECURITY: Kwara CP meets with top officers, says abuse of citizens’ rights will attract sanction

In his bid to change crime narrative in Kwara State, the Commissioner of Police Mohammad Lawal Bagega psc, has told top management officers, heads of Tactical Units and Divisional Police Officers in the command, that abuse of fundamental rights of the citizens would attract severe sanction.

This is made known to CEOAFRICA in a Press statement signed by Sp Okasanmi Ajayi (anipr), the Police Public Relations Officer, on January 9th, 2021.

 Bagega revealed that his policing philosophy includes ‘the fear of God and human face.’

“Officers should know that the main purpose of police existence in Kwara state is the people and as such, police officers must partner with relevant stakeholders in their respective areas of responsibility bereft of any acrimony but with mutual confidence and respect which will ultimately make their job easy.  Warning sternly that abuse of fundamental rights of the citizens would not be tolerated.

“Illegal detention, extortion and abuses in general by the men will be met with stiff sanctions, the Cp admonished the officers to be alert and be proactive, do more of intelligence led policing, possess a positive outlook and change of attitude while working in line with the community policing strategy of the Inspector General of Police and in accordance with global best policing practice.”

The CP reiterated his support and defence of police officers and men doing the right thing while acts of indiscipline among any rank would be summarily punished.

On this note, Bagega used the opportunity to thank the government and people of Kwara state for their support, cooperation and partnership, and solicited more of such collaboration so that his desire for an effective and efficient police service in the state becomes a reality, stating that criminal has no hiding place in Kwara.
