Zimbabwe medical doctor attempts suicide after killing his children

A 56-year old prominent Chiredzi medical doctor, William Phiri, has attempted to commit suicide after stabbing two of his children to death in Mkwasine estate and injuring two others after a quarrel with his wife.

It was said that Dr William Phiri after discovery the murder of his two children tried to commit suicide by locking himself and his four children inside and setting the house on fire.

However, he was pulled out of his burning house in an unconscious state by neighbours and relatives.

Phiri who later regained consciousness was said to run away with firearm and attempted to shoot himself, but the firearm was reportedly jammed.

In another attempt to kill himself, “Phiri stabbed himself with a knife on the chest several times.”

It is disclosed that “Phiri and his two other injured children, a girl aged six and a boy aged four are in a critical condition at Chiredzi District Hospital.”

National police spokesperson Assistant, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the development, saying “police are still investigating full circumstances behind the incident.”
