Member of Kenyan Parliament, Justus Murunga is said to have died on Saturday evening, November 14, at St. Mary's Hospital, at 60 years old.

Reports have it he was receiving treatment for diabetes and coronavirus at Aga Khan Hospital and would have been later discharged after he returned a negative COVID-19 test but had to be rushed to St. Mary's Hospital after his condition worsened.

Murunga who is a first-time MP, was elected on Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket.

The lawmaker made headlines in 2019 after he was arrested in connection with a wave of Matungu killings that left at least 12 people dead.

The MP’s death has since been confirmed by Kimilili lawmaker Didmus Barasa who took to his social media platforms to pay tribute to him.

Barasa mourned his colleague as "a hardworking and steadfast leader," underscoring his role in fighting for justice in the country.
