The Ugandan People’s Defense Force (UPDF) has returned the bodies of two South Sudanese soldiers it killed during an attack on a South Sudan army outpost in Eastern Equatoria state on Tuesday.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Army spokesman Major-General Lul Ruai Koang.

Koang had earlier confirmed clashes between South Sudan and Uganda armies along the border, after the UPDF attacked a SSPDF outpost in Pogee in Eastern Equatoria state’s Magwi County killing two soldiers and kidnapping one.

In a statement, General Lul said the Ugandan army has returned the bodies including their weapons saying the SSPDF’s 7th Infantry Division will conduct a ‘dignified’ burial to the slain South Sudanese soldiers.

The “SSPDF GHQs takes this opportunity to inform the people of South Sudan that the remains of fallen Servicemen martyred at Battle of Pogee were received from representatives of UPDF late in the evening. Own Serviceman who was captured also returned in good health,”

“Two of three personal assault rifles the deceased has had were received in good condition except third that was partly damaged as a result of fatal shot that was delivered by invading forces. Plans are at advanced stages for SSPDF’s 7th Infantry Division to give dignified burial to fallen comrades,” he added.

It remain unclear if the third who was captured alive has also been handed over to the South Sudan army.
